15 May 2007 - TRIDENT REPORT MAY 2007

2007 sees not only the Centenary of Scouting in the UK but also marks 95 years of Scouting in Eynsford & Farningham. We, in our own inimitable style will celebrate this momentous birthday on Common Meadow in Eynsford on Saturday 30 June and would like to extend an invitation to all Eynsford & Farningham residents to join us. And because it’s a significant year for both 1st Eynsford & Farningham Scout Group and Scouting in general, the Funday this year will have a more “Scouty” feel to it than usual.

Those of you who are old enough may well remember the Gang Shows staged by the Scouts in the 1960’s. You may well even have taken part. The cast list for the 1964 show has many familiar names, it reads like a who’s who of Eynsford & Farningham. (I wont embarrass you)… Well we hope to reprise that golden age, by staging a mini Gang Show as part of this year’s entertainment. There will be plenty of singing, acting and dancing from the youngest Beaver to the Eldest Scout and a rousing final number for you to join in with.

But that’s not all we got to offer you this year, the Donkeys will be back again (why not sponsor one!!) and Scout and Guide groups from around the district will battle it out around Common Meadow in a series of knockout heats that will see them competing over an assault course, pitching tents, and sailing bottle boats along the river plus some other hidden surprises that could leave them slightly damper than when they arrived. Darent Valley Youth Music accompanying us in our Musical extravaganza and will also entertain us all with their own repertoire. Eynsford Photographic Club join us with an exhibition of awesome photographs, some of which will be available for you to buy. And our regular supporters, Country Markets with their scrumptious fare and Farningham & Eynsford Historical Society will give another fascinating peek at times gone by.

And to close our stupendous 95th anniversary event we will have a Grande finale,  The Great Rocket Car Run, when we will see the Luna Papier Rocket Car whiz across Common Meadow.  So what more can you be waiting for, there’s nothing on the telly and not even a World Cup to distract you this year, so come on down and have a whiz of a time!!
